Läpikäytävien sankarit (Heroes of the Passing-Thrus) is a typical parade march. It begins with a four bar fanfare-like intro, which is followed by a prompt and extrovert main theme in B flat major. It is characterized by a repeating upward motion of a sixth. The main theme is followed by a bass solo, which is loosely based on a B section of a certain Nordic national hymn. The clarinets and saxophones respond lyrically. The start of the A flat Trio theme on the horns and euphonium is a nostalgic reminder of a certain horn concerto by a certain late 18th century Austrian composer. Finally the main theme reappears, this time in E flat major. It is augmented by a euphonium obligato and later by a countermelody in the horns, trombones and euphonium. The last word is left for the low register instruments.
